Diseases of Guinea Pigs - Basic Part
1. Clinical examination
This lecture will discuss a detailed plan for the clinical examination of domestic guinea pigs. The aim of the presentation is to provide practical tips that will allow veterinarians to glean as much information as possible from the examination, taking into account the specifics of this species.
2. Additional tests and basic medical procedures
In this lecture, participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with techniques for collecting material for laboratory tests and the principles of performing imaging studies in domestic guinea pigs. We will also discuss how to properly interpret the results of these tests. The second part of the lecture will be devoted to basic medical procedures, such as administering medications, inserting an IV catheter, and fluid therapy.
3. Most common diseases
The last lecture in this series aims to familiarize participants with the most common diseases of rats, their diagnosis, and treatment methods. Special attention will be paid to chronic respiratory infections, pituitary tumors, and skin diseases.
Diseases of Guinea Pigs - Advanced Part
1. The balding guinea pig
Skin problems are quite a common reason for guinea pig owners to visit a veterinarian. During the lecture, participants will learn what conditions can underlie this disorder and what are the most effective diagnostic and therapeutic methods. The lecture will provide practical tips on how to manage alopecia in guinea pigs, allowing for faster and more effective intervention.
2. Thyroid diseases
The aim of this lecture is to equip participants with practical knowledge, primarily on the effective diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism in domestic guinea pigs. The difficulties that may arise in the diagnostic and therapeutic process will be discussed.
3. Eating disorders
Reduced or complete loss of appetite is a common, yet highly non-specific symptom that can indicate a number of different health problems. The lecture will provide participants with practical tips on how to systematically approach the diagnosis of such patients. Key elements that should be given special attention in the diagnostic process will be discussed to increase the chances of accurately identifying the cause of eating disorders.
4. Neurology and orthopedics - selected topics
This lecture will discuss selected topics related to the most common health problems concerning the nervous and musculoskeletal systems in domestic guinea pigs.
