WEBINAR
Speaker: Han Opsomer Dr. med. vet. EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition
Duration: 45 minutes
This webinar has been prepared primarily for veterinarians who wish to better understand the nutritional needs of rabbits and consciously evaluate dietary recommendations encountered in daily practice.
Instead of merely presenting current feeding guidelines, we will take a closer look at what rabbits actually eat in nature, how this translates to feeding domestic rabbits, and whether some of our current feeding recommendations should be re-evaluated in light of available data.
During the webinar, we will discuss the natural diet of wild rabbits and consider how it can help us better understand their nutritional needs. Then, we will move on to the practical aspects of feeding domestic rabbits, discussing current recommendations and available feeding guidelines.
We will also critically examine the recommendations we routinely give to rabbit owners. We will discuss to what extent they are supported by available data and whether certain aspects of nutrition - including, among others, calcium metabolism - require a more detailed look.
The webinar will primarily focus on translating nutritional knowledge into clinical practice, so that veterinarians can provide even more informed and evidence-based advice to rabbit owners regarding proper nutrition.
During the webinar, we will cover the following topics:
- What does a rabbit eat in nature?
- Feeding domestic rabbits
- FEDIAF and current sources
- Should we change current recommendations?
- Calcium metabolism
